It's slightly easier to comb through stuff online than on an actual sales rack, but either way, it does take patience - I kind of wish major stores released a weekly magazine like some supermarkets in Europe do (like Lidl and Aldi) to tell you exactly what items are going to be discounted the following week, thus allowing you to plan ahead and avoid panic buying.
